Welcome to Chicago This week on An American in Chicago I want to give you a quick overview of what you can find when traveling to the city.
Chicago AKA:
The Windy City
Chi-Town
City of Big Shoulders (From Carl Sandburg's 1914's poem of Chicago)
Second City (my favorite nickname for the city)
The City of Wonder AKA one of my favorite cities.
Chicago is my Second Home, hence why second city is my favorite nickname. I love coming to Chicago and for me I tend to travel there at least once a year. Partly due to the "nerd" in me and partly due to the city calling me. Yes I have family there (friends that over time have grown into a second family), yes I have gone there enough that this gal feels comfortable in this town, but mainly Chicago just sings to me.
The skyline is beautiful.
Downtown is bustling and hopping...
You want food they have that ***photo by gbradleypublishing.com***
deep dish pizza oh they got that ***not my photo credit unknown ***
Dogs they got those too ***not my photo credit unknown***
Beer yep

Deserts oh my that and more!
If you are looking for culture they have that in spades,
Music: jazz, hip-hop, dance, soul and funk
Concerts in the park just go around the corner to the nearest park
Parks are in ten-fold here in the Windy City go about 10 blocks and boom you run into another tucked in a corner, around an office building, down by a school, across from a building, or near an abandon lot
You want art plenty of that
And if you just want street art well you don't have to look too far...
Museums you've come to the right place
Plus the Shedd Aquarium
Don't even get me started on shopping.
Oh Chicago have I mentioned how much I love thee. The people of Chicago have been nothing but gracious, the food nothing but delicious, the company nothing but happy, and the times nothing but memorable. It is hands down one of the most fabulous cities to visit. This month as this American visits the windy city in more detail I will help you explore more fantastic places to eat, shop, where to get the best hotels, small suburbs (cause darling there are a lot), best places to go for the non-tourist hot spots (in other words how to see the city without feeling like a tourist), as well as the tourist places you must visit, historical fun facts and places to visit, spooky fun, and some fun things to do year round when in the city. Also I will help the geek in you explore fun things like comic shops, conventions, and the rather fun experience of Wizard Word, the do and don'ts of big city nerdom :) stick around cause this American is just getting started!
Next post
I will tell you about my latest trip and how to prepare for a little thing I like to call a convention Nerd Style. Basically how to pack, prepare, and survive during a small convention vs. a large convention. Stay tune as we continue our journey in Chicago
